In order to join Eyes as Big as Plates, Jórunn Lísa Kjartansdóttir generously took the day off work. She had seen the callout for models in the local newspaper Morgunblaðið (the oldest newspaper in Iceland, founded in 1913) and thought it sounded like fun. Lisa has a cat called Torres, yes, it’s named after the football player. She goes swimming at the Laugardalslaug twice a week (apparently that’s where it’s all at, forget about the Blue Lagoon).
Rauðhólar used to be Lisa’s playground as a child and also her workplace as a teenager. Much of the hills were used to lay the grounds for Reykjavik airport, roadworks and even building houses. It feels like there is a little bit of Rauðhólar everywhere in the Reykjanes peninsula. These pseudocraters are part of Reykjavík’s nature reserve of Heiðmörk.
