Rauðhólar – The Red Hills with Lisa

In order to join Eyes as Big as Plates, Jórunn Lísa Kjartansdóttir generously took the day off work.  She had seen the callout for models in the local newspaper Morgunblaðið (the oldest newspaper in Iceland, founded in 1913) and thought it sounded like fun. Lisa has a cat called Torres, yes, it’s named after the football player. She goes swimming at the Laugardalslaug twice a week (apparently that’s where it’s all at, forget about the Blue Lagoon).

Rauðhólar used to be Lisa’s playground as a child and also her workplace as a teenager. Much of  the hills were used to lay the grounds for Reykjavik airport, roadworks and even building houses. It feels like there is a little bit of Rauðhólar everywhere in the Reykjanes peninsula. These pseudocraters are part of Reykjavík’s nature reserve of Heiðmörk.

Riitta really enjoyed the curve of these nice and crispy twigs, plus much lighter to carry to the location than lava © Karoline Hjorth & Riitta Ikonen

As Riitta was arranging an array of sticks into Lisa's collar, Riitta asked if she new what she had signed up for. She said she had a pretty good idea, as an image of Agnes went along with the newspaper feature © Riitta Ikonen & Karoline Hjorth

Right after we got back to the car and the sandwiches, it started snowing. A refreshing minus 4 degrees celsius and some more of that north wind today © Karoline Hjorth & Riitta Ikonen
