Nuuk Nordic 2017 – Greenland!

Eyes as big as Plates had the great honour of returning to Greenland for the second Nuuk Nordic Culture Festival this week. Thank you NAPA for inviting us to be part of the festivities and Nuuk Art Museum for hosting our book launch and mini exhibition. Last night’s full house included three of our Greenlandic models/collaborators, Amalie from our 2015 adventure and our two new partners in crime, Nuka and Sikem.

Here is a little sneek preview, we can’t wait to show you the final results!

We met her at Forsamlingshuset where we’ve been treated to breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. © Karoline Hjorth & Riitta Ikonen
As Nuka told us she rarely leaves the cosmopolitan city center, we headed to the reservoir just ten minutes from the high street hustle and bustle © Karoline Hjorth & Riitta Ikonen
She loves to belt out a couple of tunes in the wild when no one is around. © Karoline Hjorth & Riitta Ikonen

Sikem took us to the end of Nuuk and the foothills of Ukkusissat. © Karoline Hjorth & Riitta Ikonen
Sikem does a lot of volunteer work in all kinds of events in and around town. We met him during his volunteer shift at the Nuuk Nordic Festival and it took him exactly half a second to say yes to our proposal of plant immersion. In his day job he works at the Nuuk Fritidshjem, which is the after school centre.
Whenever he is not working he clears his mind by running, walking and exploring his own neighbourhood. This spot is five minutes down the road from his house. Before the snow fell we picked and dried oodles of a plant called ukaliusaq, which is the Arctic cottongrass.

    1. Dear Amy,
Thank you for your lovely greeting! Nuuk and Greenland is one of the most glorious places we have ever visited – and so warmly recommended, especially during the Nuuk Nordic Festival! The next one is happening in 2019…plenty of time to book tickets! Best wishes for the new year, Karoline and Riitta.
