We are proud to celebrate our heroes right at their doorstep in the east of Finland and look forward to toasting with you at 2pm on Wednesday the 9th of May at Pielisen Museo aka The Museum of Lieksa.
The exhibition will be open every day from 10am to 6pm (except Midsummer Eve) for the duration of the show 9.5.–15.9.2018. Six of the works were taken in the Midsummer of 2012 and many of them near or in lake Kelvä just a stone’s throw away from the exhibit.
The Museum of Lieksa is the second largest open-air museum in Finland with more than 70 buildings from three centuries: The incredibly well preserved farm houses, boats, mills, forest worker’s log cabins and timber floating machinery storehouses are easily worth a full afternoon of exploring and a mesmerizing insight into the history and handcraft of this region dominated by waterways.
You’ll also be right next door to Koli with the oldest nature trail in the country and Paateri, the studio and home of the notorious sculptor Eva Ryynänen (we are big fans). She was born in 1915 and a fierce figure in the front row of women who shaped the art scene of her time. We cannot urge you strongly enough to visit her home and workshop if you happen to be in this hood.
